Wardrobe moving and delivery

Wardrobes are among the most awkward pieces of furniture to move: tall, heavy, often too big to go through a doorway in one piece, and easily damaged if they are dragged or twisted. Our wardrobe moving service handles them properly — a two-person crew, careful lifting, and dismantling and reassembly where a wardrobe simply will not fit through the door or up the stairs whole.

We move fitted and freestanding wardrobes between homes, deliver new and second-hand ones from shops and private sellers, and shift them for room changes and clearances. Solid-wood and mirrored wardrobes are no problem — we blanket-wrap them, protect mirrored doors, and take the wardrobe apart and rebuild it at the other end if that is the safe way to move it. Tell us the wardrobe, the floors at each end and any stairs, and we will plan the job.

We cover every London borough and the surrounding areas, keep same-day and next-day slots open, and fully insure every job.

What wardrobe moving covers

  • Freestanding and flat-pack wardrobes moved or delivered
  • Optional dismantling and reassembly to fit through doors
  • Solid-wood and mirrored wardrobes handled with care
  • Blanket-wrapping and mirror-door protection
  • Two-person carry up and down stairs
  • Same-day and next-day slots, insurance to be confirmed before booking

Pricing: Wardrobe moving is charged on our man and van rate from £65/hr, or from £95/hr with two movers for large or upstairs jobs. Fixed price agreed before we arrive.

Wardrobe Moving prices

Wardrobe moving runs on the hourly rate. Whether it is the one-mover or two-mover rate comes down to the size of the wardrobe and whether there are stairs.

Van and driver
from £65/hr

One mover driving. Fine when you can take one end of the sofa.

Two movers
from £95/hr

For heavy items, stairs, and anything you should not be lifting.

Minimum charge
£95

The smallest job we book, the same across the whole site.

Fixed price
before we load

Confirmed from your photos, or on the day before anything moves.

A flat-pack wardrobe that comes apart is a quick job. A solid oak double with mirrored doors going down two flights is not, and we would rather quote it as the job it is.

How it works

1

Photograph it whole

One picture of the wardrobe and one of the doorway it has to leave through. Nine times out of ten that tells us whether it needs dismantling.

2

Say if it is fitted

A built-in wardrobe is a different job from a freestanding one — it usually has to come apart, and some do not survive it.

3

Fixed price and slot

Confirmed before we arrive, including the dismantling time if it needs it, so the tools are on the van.

4

Wrap, carry, rebuild

Blanket-wrapped, mirror doors given extra protection, two-person carry on stairs, and reassembled at the other end if that is what you booked.

Getting a wardrobe out of the room it is in

Wardrobes are built where they stand more often than people realise. A double wardrobe is frequently wider than the door of the bedroom it lives in, which is fine until the day it has to leave. The honest answer on a lot of these jobs is that it comes apart or it does not go.

That is not bad news if you know in advance. Dismantling a flat-pack or knock-down wardrobe is quick, and most modern ones are designed for it. What causes problems is discovering it on the day, with a van outside and no cam-lock tool on board — which is why we ask for the photo of the doorway rather than just the wardrobe.

  • Freestanding and flat-pack. Moved whole where the doors and stairs allow, dismantled and rebuilt where they do not.
  • Mirrored doors. Wrapped separately and carried flat. Mirror glass fails at the corners, so it never travels standing up against a wall.
  • Solid wood. Heavier than it looks and hard on hands and door frames — this is the case for the two-mover rate rather than a false economy.
  • Fitted wardrobes. Usually have to be dismantled, and older MDF ones often will not go back together. We will tell you which yours is likely to be.
  • Empty it first. Clothes, hangers and the shelf contents out before we arrive. A loaded wardrobe is both heavier and more likely to rack and split.
  • Reassembly. Book it up front so we allow the time — the rebuild is usually the longer half of the job.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you take a wardrobe apart to get it out? expand_more

Yes. Where a wardrobe will not fit through the door or up the stairs whole, we dismantle and reassemble it — let us know in advance so we bring the tools.

Can you protect a mirrored wardrobe? expand_more

Yes. We blanket-wrap wardrobes and give mirrored doors extra protection so they arrive undamaged.

Can you deliver a wardrobe I bought second-hand? expand_more

Yes. We collect from shops and private sellers and deliver to you, carrying it up any stairs.

How much does it cost? expand_more

On our man and van rate from £65 per hour. Tell us the wardrobe and the access at both ends for a fixed price.

Is the wardrobe insured during the move? expand_more

Ask us for the current insurance certificate, cover limits and exclusions that apply to your job before you book.

Can you move a fitted wardrobe? expand_more

We move freestanding and flat-pack wardrobes. A built-in fitted wardrobe usually has to be dismantled first — tell us what you have and we will advise whether we can move it.

Should I empty the wardrobe before you arrive? expand_more

Yes, completely, including the top shelf and the hanging rail. It is not only about weight: a loaded carcass twists as it is lifted, which is how the joints and back panel get damaged.

Will a dismantled wardrobe go back together properly? expand_more

Modern flat-pack with cam locks usually does, and we take care over it. Older chipboard and MDF units that have been apart before sometimes do not hold — we tell you if yours looks like one of those before we start.

Can you take a wardrobe to the tip instead? expand_more

Yes — that is a disposal job rather than a move. Our rubbish removal service covers it, and it is priced by volume rather than by the hour.

Do you bring the tools for dismantling? expand_more

Yes, provided you tell us it may need dismantling when you book. It is the one thing we cannot improvise on the day if the van is loaded for a straight carry.
