Quick Answer
Furniture delivery with Van Thats Quick is a dedicated van run: one piece, one driver, nothing else in the back, collected today where the diary allows. A local marketplace collection is £45. One piece anywhere within the M25 is £55. Beyond the M25 it is £1.90 a loaded mile with a £95 minimum covering the first fifty — so Brighton is about £114, Birmingham about £238 and Manchester about £380. Add £45 where the piece needs two people.
Furniture is the awkward middle. It is too big for a parcel network, too small to be worth a removal firm's day rate, and shops either will not deliver it at all or will leave it on the pavement outside a first-floor flat. Van Thats Quick is a dedicated furniture courier: one piece, one driver, one van, and nothing else in the back. We collect from a store, a showroom, a warehouse or a private seller, usually the same day, and we carry the piece into the room you want it in.
The price is set by two things — what the piece is and how many loaded miles it travels — and it is fixed before we collect. A local marketplace pickup is £45. One piece anywhere inside the M25 is £55. Outside the M25 it is £1.90 for every loaded mile from the collection door to the delivery door, with a £95 minimum that covers the first fifty. Oxford or Guildford works out at about £105, Brighton £114, Bristol £228, Birmingham £238 and Manchester £380. A second person for a corner sofa, a solid wardrobe or three flights of stairs adds £45. The empty leg home is already inside the rate and there is no fuel surcharge.
Why the prices you see online are lower than ours. The headline figures on the big platforms are shared-van prices. One van carries eight or ten jobs, the route is built around the driver's week rather than your date, and the collection window is several days wide and can move. That is genuinely good value if your sofa can wait and somebody is in at both ends whenever it turns up. What we sell is the opposite trade: your piece is the only thing in the van, it is collected today, and the driver who loads it is the driver who carries it in. We are not going to beat a shared load on the headline, and we will not pretend to.
We are based in Uxbridge (UB8) and Chalfont St Peter, which makes west London, Hillingdon, Buckinghamshire and the M40/M25 corridor our home turf and the fastest for a same-day slot — but we run the whole UK mainland. Vans are ULEZ-compliant, we carry trolleys, straps, moving blankets and floor protection as standard, and the Congestion Charge (£18) is passed through only where it genuinely applies. Ask us for the current insurance certificate, cover limits and exclusions before you book, and we will send them over.
Same-day furniture delivery — included, not an extra
Same-day is the product here, not a surcharge. Most furniture jobs are not planned a fortnight out: a seller wants the piece gone today, a showroom will hold it until closing, a tenancy ends on Friday. Where the diary allows we collect today, usually within about two hours of booking, and deliver today anywhere up to roughly 200 loaded miles. Beyond that it runs overnight and lands the following morning.
- There is no same-day charge. The price is £55 inside the M25, or £1.90 a loaded mile with a £95 minimum beyond it, whether we collect this afternoon or on Friday.
- Ring early anyway. One van does one job at a time, so slots go in the order they are booked. A call before ten almost always gets a same-day answer; a call at four often becomes first thing tomorrow.
- We do not publish a cut-off time, because there honestly is not one — it depends on where the van already is and how far your job runs. Ask and we will tell you straight away whether today works.
- Seven days, 7am–10pm. Evenings and weekends are ordinary working time here, not an out-of-hours rate.
- West London and Bucks first. Uxbridge, Hillingdon, Hayes, Ruislip, Denham, Gerrards Cross and the Chalfonts are minutes from base, so those are the postcodes most likely to get a same-day yes.
The one thing that kills a same-day booking is not distance — it is access we did not know about. Tell us about the stairs, the lift that does not reach the top floor or the permit bay when you ring, not when we arrive. See same-day delivery for how urgent runs are scheduled.
eBay, Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree furniture courier
Second-hand furniture is where a courier earns their money. The listing says "collection only", the seller works, the piece is up two flights, and you have a car that will not take a three-seat sofa. A local marketplace collection is £45 — the cheapest job on our list, because it is one item, one driver and a short run.
- We deal with the seller directly. Give us their name, number and postcode and we will arrange the window with them. You do not have to be there for the collection.
- Agree payment with the seller yourself — we collect once it is paid, and we check the item against the listing before it goes in the van.
- We check the piece before it goes in the van and photograph anything already damaged, so a scuff that was there at collection is not an argument at delivery.
- Several buys, one run. If you have won three or four things from different sellers in the same area, a £195 van load is usually cheaper than separate jobs. A second item from the same pickup is £25.
- Today, if the seller can do today. Marketplace collections are the jobs most often lost to a seller changing their mind, so we treat them as same-day work wherever the diary allows.
Once the run leaves the M25 the same collection is priced per loaded mile — £1.90 a mile with a £95 minimum, so a piece from Oxford or Guildford is about £105 and one from Brighton about £114. More detail on eBay collection, Gumtree collection and marketplace delivery, and our marketplace delivery guide covers the etiquette that stops a collection going wrong.
Store, showroom and warehouse collections
Plenty of retailers sell furniture they will not carry upstairs, and plenty more only offer a kerbside drop on a three-week lead time. A store or click-and-collect run is £55 within the M25 — we turn up at the collection desk with your order number, load it and bring it in, usually the same day you ring.
- IKEA and the big retail parks are an everyday job. Flat-pack, assembled display pieces and mattresses all fit — see IKEA delivery.
- Independent showrooms and auction houses usually give a collection window rather than a slot. We work to their window and confirm yours around it.
- Trade counters and warehouses often need a booking reference and an ID. Send us both and we will handle it.
- Assembly is a separate job. We deliver and place the piece; building it is not part of a courier run, so ask when you book if you want that priced too.
- Waiting time. The first twenty minutes at each end is inside the price; after that it is £15 per fifteen minutes, which almost never comes up but is worth knowing if a collection desk is slow.
The practical difference between us and a retailer's own delivery is not really the price — it is that a fixed slot from us is an actual slot, it can be today, and the piece ends up in the bedroom rather than in the hallway. If you are weighing the two up, our IKEA delivery alternatives guide sets out the real numbers.
What decides the price: item, loaded miles, access
Three things move the number, and only three. Everything else — fuel, tolls, the driver's time, the empty run home, blankets and straps — is already inside the fixed price.
- The item. One piece is one price. A chest of drawers, an armchair or a dining table is a straightforward one-person carry with a trolley. A corner sofa, a double wardrobe or an American-style piece needs two people, which adds £45. A second piece from the same pickup is £25.
- The loaded miles. Inside the M25 one piece is £55 flat, whether the run is three miles or twenty-five. Outside it, £1.90 for every loaded mile between the collection door and the delivery door, with a £95 minimum that covers the first fifty. Oxford or Guildford is about £105, Brighton £114, Bristol £228, Birmingham £238, Nottingham £247, Manchester £380.
- The access. This is the one people forget. Stairs with a turn, a lift that stops a floor short, a permit bay you cannot load in, a shared door that has to be propped — each of those adds real time. Tell us up front and it stays in the fixed price. Tell us on the day and it may not.
What is not on the list: the day of the week, the time of day, a same-day surcharge, a fuel levy or a charge for the empty leg home. If the job is really several pieces rather than one, the honest answer is usually a £195 van load or our two-mover man and van service at £89 an hour with a 2-hour minimum — and we will say so rather than stacking single-item prices on top of each other. Full ladder on the pricing page.
London to the rest of the UK, by the loaded mile
Beyond the M25 there are no bands to argue about: it is £1.90 a loaded mile from door to door, minimum £95. That is the same way every dedicated same-day courier in the country prices, and it means you can check our number with a map. Anything up to about 200 loaded miles is collected and delivered the same day; further than that runs overnight and arrives the next morning.
- Oxford or Guildford — about 55 loaded miles — £105, there and back inside a day with time to spare.
- Brighton — about 60 miles — £114.
- Bristol — about 120 miles — £228. Birmingham, about 125 miles, £238.
- Manchester — about 200 miles — £380, still a same-day job with an early start. Leeds, about 195 miles, £371.
- Edinburgh — about 400 miles — £760, run overnight for a next-morning delivery rather than pretended to be same-day.
It is a dedicated job whichever it is: your piece goes in the van in London and comes out at the far end, with no depot, no transfer and no second driver. You have the driver's number and the driver has yours. A whole room going one way is a different product — a van-load day rate of £450 to the Midlands or £600 to the North; see London to Birmingham, London to Manchester and London to Leeds. For anything bigger or heavier than furniture on the same routes, see large item courier and long distance.

Typical furniture and what it costs
The pieces we are asked about most, at three worked distances. Where a piece normally needs two people, the second-person charge is shown with it.
| Item | Within the M25 | ~60 miles (e.g. Brighton) | ~200 miles (e.g. Manchester) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Two-seat sofa | £55 | £114 | £380 |
| Three-seat sofa | £55 | £114 | £380 |
| Corner sofa (two people) | £55 + £45 | £114 + £45 | £380 + £45 |
| Armchair | £55 | £114 | £380 |
| Double wardrobe (two people) | £55 + £45 | £114 + £45 | £380 + £45 |
| Chest of drawers | £55 | £114 | £380 |
| Dining table and chairs | £55 | £114 | £380 |
| Bed frame and mattress | £55 | £114 | £380 |
| Sideboard | £55 | £114 | £380 |
Distances are loaded miles from the collection door to the delivery door at £1.90 a mile, £95 minimum — your own route may be shorter or longer than the examples. Add £45 for a second person on anything the driver cannot safely carry alone, and £25 for a second piece from the same pickup.
How we compare with other furniture couriers
What the same job costs elsewhere, and what each price actually buys. A shared-network headline and a dedicated same-day van are not the same product, so they are marked as such.
| Provider | Job | Published price | What it buys |
|---|---|---|---|
| Van Thats Quick | One piece of furniture, London → Manchester, collected today | £380 | Yes — one driver, today, loading included |
| AMV Couriers (rate card) | Dedicated same-day van, per loaded mile | Small van £1.20 · SWB £1.50 · LWB £1.80 · XLWB £1.90 · Luton £2.20 (min £45–£125) | Yes — same model as ours |
| Dispatchit Couriers (rate card) | Transit van, per mile one way | £1.70/mile, £30 minimum; waiting £30/hr after 10 min; weekends +20% | Yes |
| HG Same Day (cost guide) | Small / MWB / LWB / Luton, per mile | £1.30 / £1.40 / £1.60 / £1.80 | Yes — industry guide |
| Transport Executive | One item London → Manchester, fixed date | £175–£230 | Dedicated, booked date — not collected today |
| Porta Delivery | Sofa London → Manchester, collected today by 5pm | from £185 (from £120 flexible date) | Same-day only with three add-ons |
| AnyVan | Two-seat sofa, national | £58–£184 | No — shared network, multi-day window |
| Shiply | Backload examples (fridge Hampshire → Plymouth) | £40–£60 | No — spare space on someone else’s route |
Figures read 2026-09-11 from each provider’s published pages. Same-day dedicated couriers price per loaded mile — our £1.90 is the published rate for an extra-long-wheelbase Transit, and we send a Transit or Luton, not a small van. Shared-network prices depend on a driver already passing your route, on their date.

Furniture Delivery — your questions answered
How much does furniture delivery cost in London?
One piece of furniture anywhere inside the M25 is £55, fixed before we collect. A local collection from a marketplace seller is £45, and an IKEA or store click-and-collect run is £55. Add £45 if the piece needs two people. Collection today is included rather than surcharged. Send a photo and both postcodes and we will confirm the number.
What does a furniture courier cost outside London?
Outside the M25 it is £1.90 for every loaded mile between the collection door and the delivery door, with a £95 minimum that covers the first fifty miles. Oxford or Guildford works out at about £105, Brighton £114, Bristol £228, Birmingham £238 and Manchester £380. There is no fuel surcharge and nothing charged for the empty leg home.
Can you deliver furniture the same day?
That is the normal way this service runs. Where the diary allows we collect today, usually within about two hours of booking, and deliver today anywhere up to roughly 200 loaded miles. Beyond that it runs overnight for a next-morning delivery. There is no same-day surcharge — a same-day piece inside the M25 is the ordinary £55. Ring early, because one van does one job at a time.
Will you carry it upstairs and into the room?
Yes — that is the difference between a courier and a delivery. The driver carries the piece in and puts it where you want it. If the item genuinely needs two people, a corner sofa or a solid wardrobe up a turning staircase, add £45 for a second person. Tell us about the stairs when you book so it is inside the fixed price.
Can you collect furniture from an eBay or Facebook Marketplace seller?
Yes, and it is one of our most common jobs. A local marketplace collection is £45. Give us the seller's name, number and postcode and we will arrange the window directly with them — you do not need to be there. We check the piece before it is loaded and photograph anything already damaged. See marketplace delivery.
Do you send one person or two?
One driver, unless the item needs two. That is deliberate: sending two people on a job one can do would mean charging you for a pair of hands you do not need. Where the piece really does need two — corner sofas, big wardrobes, awkward stairs — a second person is £45. Full crews are for removals and clearances, not single items.
Why is AnyVan or Shiply cheaper than you?
Because those are shared vans. One van carries eight or ten jobs, the route is built around the driver's week, and the collection window is several days wide and can move. We put one piece in one van and collect it today, which costs more per job and is a different product. If your sofa can wait and someone is in at both ends whenever it lands, a shared load is the sensible choice — the table above shows what each one publishes.
I have bought several pieces from different sellers. What is the best way?
One run rather than several jobs. A van load is £195 and covers a few sellers in the same area or roughly a room of furniture, which is almost always cheaper than stacking single-item prices. A second piece from the same pickup is just £25. If it is genuinely a house's worth, that is a move, not a courier job — see small removals.
What if it does not fit through the door?
We measure the tightest point first — usually a doorway, a turn on the stairs or a lift car. Feet come off sofas, doors come off hinges and wardrobes often come apart. If it truly will not go, we will tell you at the collection end rather than after we have driven across London, and you have not paid for a delivery that could not happen.
Do you take the old furniture away?
We can, but it is a separate job on a separate ladder because disposal carries gate fees. Ask when you book and we will price the removal alongside the delivery so both numbers are agreed up front. It is almost always cheaper done on the same visit than as a second callout.
Is my furniture insured while you have it?
Ask us for the current insurance certificate, the cover limits and any exclusions that apply to your job before you book, and we will send them over. We would rather you read the paperwork than take a claim on trust. Everything travels blanket-wrapped and strapped, with floor protection at both ends.
How far in advance should I book?
You do not have to book ahead at all — most of our work is collected the same day it is booked. Ringing in the morning gives the best chance of a same-day slot, and a long run of 200 miles or more is easier with a day's notice because it takes most of a driver's day. We work seven days, 7am to 10pm, and weekends are not charged at a premium.
Do you charge extra for the Congestion Charge or ULEZ?
The Congestion Charge (£18) is passed through only where the job actually enters the zone on a charging day — it is not added to every London job. There is never a ULEZ surcharge because our vans are ULEZ-compliant. Both are stated in the quote before you agree to it.
What areas do you cover?
All of London on the flat £55 within-the-M25 rate, with west London, Hillingdon, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Berkshire and Surrey fastest — we are based in Uxbridge (UB8) and Chalfont St Peter. Beyond that we cover the whole UK mainland at £1.90 a loaded mile, minimum £95. Northern Ireland, the islands and anything needing a ferry are quoted separately.
