What garden waste we take in Hillingdon
The interwar semis around Hillingdon village and along Long Lane and Royal Lane come with long back gardens, and a long garden produces more than a sack at a time. Typical jobs are a hedge finally cut back, a border reclaimed before a sale, a winter’s worth of prunings, or a garden brought back after years of being left — carried out from the back of the plot, with the path and the drive swept when we are done.
Hillingdon no longer collects garden waste as part of the normal service. Its garden collection is an opt-in subscription — £77 for 2026/27 — for three tagged council sacks, up to six on request, and only a tagged council sack is collected. Branches have to be under 9cm across; soil, turf, rubble, pots, fencing and decking do not count as garden waste; and garden waste is not accepted in your black sacks. For a big one-off clear-out, paying by the load usually beats paying for the year.
Our green prices are for loads that are all green — grass, leaves, hedge cuttings, prunings and branches: a bag run of up to eight bags from £59 when they are bagged and at the front, a quarter load from £139, a half load from £215 and a full Luton van from £345. Soil, turf, rubble or timber in the pile make it a mixed load, priced on our general rubbish ladder instead. We are next door in Uxbridge and work seven days, so a weekend cut-back can go on the Monday.
Hillingdon Council charges for bulky waste by the slot, not the item: £53 for most residents, £39 if you are over 65 and £94 for landlords. A slot covers up to six items, so a single mattress still costs the whole £53 and a seventh item means a second slot. Everything has to be at your boundary, at ground-floor level, by 6am — the crew will not come inside — and building and DIY waste, rubble, garden waste, tyres and hazardous items are refused. Collections run Monday to Friday on the next free date. For a few ordinary items you can carry out yourself, that is cheaper than us and we will tell you so; our Hillingdon bulky waste guide has the full rules.
There is no tip in Hillingdon itself. The borough’s household recycling centre is the Harefield Civic Amenity Site on New Years Green Lane (UB9 6LX), up in the far north-west corner of the borough: free for residents, open seven days from 8am to 4pm with last entry at 3.45pm. Cars need a HillingdonFirst card, vans need two forms of ID and are capped at 12 visits a year, and it takes household waste only. Since 15 July residents can also use Space Waye in Feltham, which is closer for the south of the borough. Our Harefield tip guide covers the ID and van rules.

Garden waste removal in Hillingdon — your questions answered
Should I just pay for the council garden waste service?
If you mow every week from spring to autumn, it can be good value: £77 buys weekly collections from March to November and fortnightly ones through the winter. If you clear the garden once or twice a year, you are paying for capacity you hardly use, and a hedge reduction will not fit in six sacks anyway — that is where a one-off collection makes sense.
Will you take branches too thick for the council sacks?
Yes. The council sacks only take branches under 9cm across, and even the Harefield tip turns away a trunk or a branch thicker than 20cm. Cut branches and logs go in our load; tell us about anything large when you book so we send the right van.
Can you take soil and turf from a Hillingdon garden?
Yes, but not as green waste. The tip charges a load with soil, turf or rubble in it at the mixed rate, so that load is priced on our general ladder rather than the green one. Send a photo with something for scale and we will fix the figure before we come.
How soon can you clear a garden in UB8 or UB10?
Usually the same or next day. We are next door in Uxbridge and work 7am to 10pm, seven days a week including bank holidays, so a Sunday cut-back is normally gone early in the week.
Is it cheaper to take it to Harefield myself?
If it fits in a car and you have a HillingdonFirst card, yes — the tip takes garden waste free, seven days, until last entry at 3.45pm. In a van, each trip counts against the 12 visits a year and you need two forms of ID. Once a clear-out means several runs or a hired van, a collection usually works out cheaper.

What the price includes — and what it doesn't
The most common complaint about clearance companies is a price that grows once the van is loaded. So here is the whole of ours, before you book, including the parts that cost extra.
Included in the price we quote
No line of this is billed separately afterwards.
- Labour — the crew, the carrying and the loading.
- The van, the fuel, ULEZ and the congestion charge — London charges are ours, not yours.
- Disposal and recycling of the load — the tipping cost is inside the price.
- Access from anywhere on the property — any room, up or down stairs, or out of the garden.
- VAT — the price you are shown is the price you pay.
- Waste transfer paperwork for your load, on request — so your duty of care is documented.
Priced separately, or not carried at all
Told to you up front, never discovered on the invoice.
- Upholstered seating and mattresses carry their own disposal fee, because the law forces them down a more expensive route than the rest of your load. The amount is on our pricing page before you book.
- Hazardous items — paint, chemicals, asbestos, tyres and gas bottles cannot travel in a general load and need a specialist route. We will tell you which one.
- Fridges, freezers and electricals have a separate WEEE route — flag them when you book so we arrive with the right van.
- Anything flammable, explosive, illegal, or alive — we cannot carry it, and we will say so before the day.
If there turns out to be more than we quoted for, you hear the new price before anything goes in the van — not once it is loaded, and not on the invoice. The same goes for access: tell us when you book if your street is permit-only or on a red route, or if the job is above the third floor with no lift, and we plan for it instead of pricing round it on the day.
What happens to your waste after we drive away
Most clearance companies stop this story at the word "recycled". Here is the actual route your load takes, including the part of it that nobody advertises.
It goes in by hand
Everything is carried out and loaded by the crew — from the room, the garden or the kerbside. What is in the load matters, because what is in it decides where it is legally allowed to go.
Sorted, not buried
The load goes to a licensed transfer station or recycling centre, where it is separated by material. It is not tipped straight into a hole in the ground.
Recovered by material
Metal, wood, cardboard, textiles and electricals are pulled out for recycling or recovery. Green waste is composted.
The bit nobody advertises
Upholstered furniture cannot be recycled at all. Since January 2023 the Environment Agency presumes every domestic sofa, armchair and padded dining chair contains persistent organic pollutants, so it must be kept apart from other waste and incinerated — never landfilled, never shredded for reuse. That law, not a markup, is why soft seating carries its own fee. Whatever is genuinely left after sorting goes to energy recovery.
- Metal
- Wood
- Cardboard & paper
- Textiles
- Electricals (WEEE)
- Green waste
We do not publish a recycling percentage. You will see "90% diverted from landfill" on a lot of clearance websites. The sorting happens at the transfer station, after our van has left, and we are not going to take credit for a figure we cannot evidence. What we can give you is the route your load takes and the paperwork for it — and if you want to check who handles it, ask us to identify the registered carrier for your collection and verify them on the Environment Agency public register before we load.
Proof, not adjectives
Anyone can type "trusted" and "reliable" onto a website. These are the things about us you can actually check.
We are a small London crew, not a national booking platform, and we are not going to pretend otherwise: we have 27 five-star reviews on Google and 3 on Yell. That is all of them. Every one is public, unedited and one tap away — which is worth rather more than a five-figure review count you have no way of reading.
