Last-minute and emergency moves

Plans fall through, completion dates jump, a tenancy ends sooner than expected, or another company simply lets you down — and suddenly you need a van today or tomorrow. Our last-minute service exists for exactly those moments. We keep slots open across the week specifically for urgent jobs, so when you call we can usually get a two-person crew and a Luton van to you the same day or next day rather than pointing at a booking three weeks out.

A rushed move does not have to mean a careless one. Even at short notice we do the job properly: blanket-wrapping furniture, protecting floors and doorways, loading securely and agreeing a fixed price before we start so a stressful day does not come with a nasty bill at the end. Emergency house and flat moves, urgent single-item collections, and short-notice clear-outs before a landlord inspection are all everyday work for us.

Ask us for the current insurance certificate, cover limits and exclusions that apply to your job before you book.

When to call us in a hurry

  • A completion or key handover date that has suddenly moved
  • A tenancy ending sooner than planned
  • Another removals firm that has cancelled or let you down
  • An urgent single-item or furniture collection needed today
  • A short-notice clear-out before an inspection or viewing
  • Two-person crew, same-day or next-day, insurance to be confirmed before booking

Pricing: Last-minute jobs are charged on our normal man and van rate from £65/hr, or from £95/hr with two movers — no panic premium for booking at short notice. Fixed price agreed before we start.

Last Minute Moving Service prices

Last-minute jobs run on the normal hourly rate. There is no panic premium — the rate is the rate whether you booked last month or this morning.

Van and driver
from £65/hr

One mover driving. Fine when you can take one end of the sofa.

Two movers
from £95/hr

For heavy items, stairs, and anything you should not be lifting.

Minimum charge
£95

The smallest job we book, the same across the whole site.

Fixed price
before we load

Confirmed from your photos, or on the day before anything moves.

What we cannot promise is that a slot exists. Call rather than email if it is today: the answer is quicker and it is either yes or no.

How it works

1

Call, do not email

For a same-day job the phone gets you an answer in minutes. An email may sit until we are off the road.

2

Tell us the essentials

Both postcodes, floors and lifts, and roughly how much there is. That is enough for a price.

3

Yes or no, straight away

If we have a van we will say so. If we do not, we will tell you that rather than string you along while you run out of time.

4

We turn up and load

Same crew, same rate, same fixed price before anything goes in the van.

What to do when the move has to happen today

Emergency moves usually come from one of three places: a chain collapsing, a landlord bringing a date forward, or a completion that finally happened after weeks of waiting. In all three cases you have less time than you need and more to move than you thought. The most useful thing you can do is stop packing perfectly and start packing fast — everything soft into bin bags, everything breakable into boxes with towels around it, and the drawers left in with the contents taped shut where the furniture will take it.

The second most useful thing is to be blunt with us about volume. People routinely underestimate by half, and a van that turns up too small means two trips and a longer day on an hourly rate. Send a photo of each room instead of guessing — it takes a minute and it gets the right van on the drive.

  • Ring, do not message. Same-day work is decided on the phone. It is the fastest route to a yes or a no.
  • Photograph every room. Faster and more accurate than trying to describe it, and it gets the right size van sent.
  • Clear the route first. Hallways, stairs and the parking space. The crew should be carrying, not tidying.
  • Pack soft things into bags. Bedding, clothes and towels into bin bags is quicker than boxing and protects the fragile items you pack around them.
  • Sort keys and access early. Being locked out of one end is the classic way to lose an emergency move.
  • No premium rate. Same-day is charged at the standard rate. Urgency is not a reason to charge you more for the same work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you move me today? expand_more

Very often, yes. We hold slots open for urgent jobs and can frequently get a crew and van to you within a couple of hours of your call.

Do you charge extra for last-minute bookings? expand_more

No. Urgent jobs are charged on our standard rate from £65 per hour — we do not add a premium just because you need us quickly.

My other removals company cancelled — can you step in? expand_more

Yes, rescuing let-down moves is a regular job for us. Call with your details and we will tell you straight away what we can do and when.

Will a rushed move still be done carefully? expand_more

Yes. We blanket-wrap, protect floors and load securely even at short notice — speed does not mean cutting corners.

Do you cover emergency clear-outs before an inspection? expand_more

Yes. We can clear a flat or garden at short notice so it is ready for a landlord inspection or a viewing.

What do you need from me to book a last-minute job? expand_more

Just the collection and delivery addresses, a rough idea of what is moving (a photo helps), and the floors and access at each end. With that we can confirm a price and a slot in minutes.

Can you really move me today? expand_more

Often, if you call early enough in the day and we have a van free. Ring rather than email — we will tell you straight away whether we can, because a maybe is no use to you.

Do you charge more for same-day? expand_more

Not for the hourly moving work. Some by-item delivery jobs carry a same-day supplement, and that is stated on the price for those. Urgency alone does not change the rate.

How quickly can you get to me? expand_more

It depends entirely on where the crew is when you call. We will give you a realistic window rather than an optimistic one — you can act on the truth, you cannot act on a maybe.

What if I have not packed? expand_more

We can still do it, but on an hourly rate the packing time is your money. Get soft items into bags and breakables into boxes before we arrive and you will notice the difference on the bill.
