Furniture we take away in Amersham
Sofas and mattresses are the two items the council makes hardest to get rid of and the two that most often need carrying down a staircase. In Old Amersham that means narrow period stairs, half-landings and tight door frames; on the Hill it is usually a first-floor bedroom and a normal turn. Either way it is a two-person job, and every VTQ booking comes with a two-person crew as standard rather than as an upgrade.
We take sofas, corner units and armchairs, mattresses and divan bases, bed frames, wardrobes, chests of drawers, dining sets, desks, garden furniture and office chairs. Upholstered seating and mattresses are priced all-in on this ladder — by the piece and its size, kerbside: an armchair £65, a mattress £75, a 2-seater £95, a 3-seater £105, a corner sofa £125, a furniture van load £375; add £30 if we carry it out of the property — so the specialist recycling charge for upholstery and mattresses is already inside the figure you are quoted.
That matters because upholstered seating and mattresses cannot legally go through general waste, and a lot of quotes bolt the recycling fee on afterwards. Ours does not. Fridges and freezers are the exception and are handled as a general load plus their published WEEE fee, because appliance fees are different again — ask and we will tell you the figure up front.
Buckinghamshire Council charges £65 for one to three items, £130 for four to six and £195 for seven to nine, and nine is the cap. It also collects from outside the property only — nothing from inside the house, from an outbuilding, or up a flight of steps. For a handful of ordinary items you can get to your boundary yourself, that is cheaper than us and we will say so.
Amersham has its own recycling centre on London Road East (HP7 9DT), open seven days a week and free for Buckinghamshire residents arriving in a car with no booking. Vans, pick-ups and minibuses are a different matter: those need a council e-permit arranged in advance. The Chesham site on Latimer Road (HP5 1TL) is the usual backup, and it closes every Wednesday and Thursday. Our south Bucks tip guide covers the sites and the rules in full.

Quick answer
Sofa removal in Amersham is priced by the piece and its size. A 2-seater is £95 if you put it outside for us, or £125 if we carry it out of any room — same or next day, upstairs flats included. A 3-seater is £105 or £135, a corner sofa £125 or £155, an armchair £65 or £95, a mattress £75 or £105. Extra pieces on the same visit add their own fee, not another call-out: a sofa plus a mattress together comes to £120 outside or £150 carried out. Every price is all-in — the POPs disposal fee is already included, and nothing is added on the day.
| What we collect | You put it outside | We carry it out |
|---|---|---|
| Armchair One armchair, footstool or occasional chair. |
£65 | £95 |
| Mattress One mattress, any size. |
£75 | £105 |
| 2-seater sofa A two-seater or loveseat. |
£95 | £125 |
| Recliner A recliner chair — heavier, with the metal mechanism in. |
£95 | £125 |
| 3-seater sofa A three-seater. |
£105 | £135 |
| Sofa bed A sofa bed, mechanism and all. |
£120 | £150 |
| Corner sofa A corner, L-shaped or four-seater sofa. |
£125 | £155 |
| Recliner sofa A two- or three-seat recliner sofa — the mechanisms make it the heaviest piece we take. |
£145 | £175 |
| Furniture van load Up to ten upholstered pieces — a flat’s worth of soft furniture. |
— | £375 |
Priced by piece and size. Each price is one piece on its own. More than one piece on the same visit? Add them up and take £50 off for each extra piece — a 2-seater plus a mattress comes to £120 outside or £150 carried out; a three-piece suite (a 3-seater and two armchairs) comes to £135 or £165. Carrying it out adds £30 per job — any room, any floor, stairs and no-lift flats included: about 20 minutes of our £89/hr two-person crew, the same whether it is a 2-seater from the front room or a corner sofa down two flights. Every price is all-in: the specialist POPs disposal that upholstered furniture legally needs is already inside the figure, and nothing is added on the day.
Sofa and mattress disposal in Amersham — your questions answered
Can you carry a sofa down from a first-floor flat in Amersham?
Yes. Every job goes out with two crew as standard, which is what a sofa on a staircase actually needs. Old Amersham period stairs with a half-landing and a tight turn are routine for us. If a piece genuinely will not come down whole, we can dismantle it in place — tell us when you book so we allow the time.
Is the recycling fee included in your sofa price?
Yes, for upholstered seating and mattresses it is all-in. Kerbside — the piece already outside — an armchair is £65, a 2-seater £95, a 3-seater £105 and a corner sofa £125; if we carry it out of the property add £30 to the job. A furniture van load is £375 with carrying included, with the specialist recycling charge already inside that. Fridges and freezers are the exception — those are a general load plus a published WEEE fee, which we will quote before we come.
Why not just use the council bulky collection?
For one to three items put outside your boundary it may well be cheaper, and we will say so. But Buckinghamshire Council collects from outside the property only, caps a booking at nine items, and will not come inside for the sofa on your first floor. If it needs carrying out, or you need it gone today, that is the gap we fill.
Do you take mattresses in Amersham?
Yes, including divan bases, and they are on the same all-in ladder as sofas. Mattresses cannot go through general waste, so they are separated and sent for specialist recycling — the fee for that is already in the price we quote you.
How soon can you collect in HP6 or HP7?
Usually the same day. Amersham is about twenty-five minutes from our Uxbridge base up the A413 and we work 7am to 10pm, seven days a week including bank holidays. Send a photo of the item and where it sits and we will confirm a fixed price and a slot.
Where we collect furniture near Amersham
We are based in Uxbridge (UB8) and cover Amersham seven days a week. As well as HP6 and HP7 we work across Little Chalfont, Chalfont St Giles, Chorleywood, Rickmansworth and Beaconsfield, and the villages in between.
What the price includes — and what it doesn't
The most common complaint about clearance companies is a price that grows once the van is loaded. So here is the whole of ours, before you book, including the parts that cost extra.
Included in the price we quote
No line of this is billed separately afterwards.
- Labour — the crew, the carrying and the loading.
- The van, the fuel, ULEZ and the congestion charge — London charges are ours, not yours.
- Disposal and recycling of the load — the tipping cost is inside the price.
- Access from anywhere on the property — any room, up or down stairs, or out of the garden.
- VAT — the price you are shown is the price you pay.
- Waste transfer paperwork for your load, on request — so your duty of care is documented.
Priced separately, or not carried at all
Told to you up front, never discovered on the invoice.
- Upholstered seating and mattresses carry their own disposal fee, because the law forces them down a more expensive route than the rest of your load. The amount is on our pricing page before you book.
- Hazardous items — paint, chemicals, asbestos, tyres and gas bottles cannot travel in a general load and need a specialist route. We will tell you which one.
- Fridges, freezers and electricals have a separate WEEE route — flag them when you book so we arrive with the right van.
- Anything flammable, explosive, illegal, or alive — we cannot carry it, and we will say so before the day.
If there turns out to be more than we quoted for, you hear the new price before anything goes in the van — not once it is loaded, and not on the invoice. The same goes for access: tell us when you book if your street is permit-only or on a red route, or if the job is above the third floor with no lift, and we plan for it instead of pricing round it on the day.
What happens to your waste after we drive away
Most clearance companies stop this story at the word "recycled". Here is the actual route your load takes, including the part of it that nobody advertises.
It goes in by hand
Everything is carried out and loaded by the crew — from the room, the garden or the kerbside. What is in the load matters, because what is in it decides where it is legally allowed to go.
Sorted, not buried
The load goes to a licensed transfer station or recycling centre, where it is separated by material. It is not tipped straight into a hole in the ground.
Recovered by material
Metal, wood, cardboard, textiles and electricals are pulled out for recycling or recovery. Green waste is composted.
The bit nobody advertises
Upholstered furniture cannot be recycled at all. Since January 2023 the Environment Agency presumes every domestic sofa, armchair and padded dining chair contains persistent organic pollutants, so it must be kept apart from other waste and incinerated — never landfilled, never shredded for reuse. That law, not a markup, is why soft seating carries its own fee. Whatever is genuinely left after sorting goes to energy recovery.
- Metal
- Wood
- Cardboard & paper
- Textiles
- Electricals (WEEE)
- Green waste
We do not publish a recycling percentage. You will see "90% diverted from landfill" on a lot of clearance websites. The sorting happens at the transfer station, after our van has left, and we are not going to take credit for a figure we cannot evidence. What we can give you is the route your load takes and the paperwork for it — and if you want to check who handles it, ask us to identify the registered carrier for your collection and verify them on the Environment Agency public register before we load.
Proof, not adjectives
Anyone can type "trusted" and "reliable" onto a website. These are the things about us you can actually check.
We are a small London crew, not a national booking platform, and we are not going to pretend otherwise: we have 27 five-star reviews on Google and 3 on Yell. That is all of them. Every one is public, unedited and one tap away — which is worth rather more than a five-figure review count you have no way of reading.
