Furniture we take away in Northwood
In a large HA6 house the sofa is rarely by the front door. It is in a first-floor sitting room, a spare bedroom or a loft room, and once it is outside there may be a gravel drive or a gated frontage between the house and the road. That is a two-person carry, and every job we do goes out with two crew as standard.
Pieces are priced by type and size, all-in. Kerbside — already outside when we arrive — a 2-seater is £95 and a corner sofa £125; carried out from wherever they sit, they come to £125 and £155. The carry is one £30 charge per job, so clearing a whole room of upholstery does not multiply it, and a furniture van load is £375 with the carrying included.
Everything upholstered goes for specialist disposal — it cannot be landfilled or shredded for reuse — and that cost is already inside the prices above; mattresses go the same way. Furniture that is still fit for use can go to reuse rather than disposal, so mention it when you book if some of it is worth keeping in circulation.
The council route in HA6 is Hillingdon’s bulky waste collection: £53 a slot, £39 for residents over 65 and £94 for landlords, with up to six items in each slot. It collects from the boundary only — out at ground level by 6am, nothing fetched from inside — and it takes no building or DIY waste, garden waste, rubble, tyres or hazardous items. Slots are booked Monday to Friday against the next free date, which at busy times can be several days away. For a few ordinary pieces you can carry to the front yourself it is cheaper than us, but a garage, loft or whole-house clear-out runs past six items straight away. Our council versus man and van comparison shows where the line falls.
Northwood’s nearest tip is the borough’s Harefield Civic Amenity Site on New Years Green Lane (UB9 6LX), over toward Harefield: free for Hillingdon residents, seven days a week, 8am to 4pm with last entry at 3.45pm. A car needs a HillingdonFirst card. A van or trailer needs photo ID plus a household bill from the last three months, both in the driver’s own name, and is capped at 12 visits a calendar year — take the hire agreement as well if the van is hired. It takes household waste only. Our Harefield tip guide sets out the rules.

Quick answer
Sofa removal in Northwood is priced by the piece and its size. A 2-seater is £95 if you put it outside for us, or £125 if we carry it out of any room — same or next day, upstairs flats included. A 3-seater is £105 or £135, a corner sofa £125 or £155, an armchair £65 or £95, a mattress £75 or £105. Extra pieces on the same visit add their own fee, not another call-out: a sofa plus a mattress together comes to £120 outside or £150 carried out. Every price is all-in — the POPs disposal fee is already included, and nothing is added on the day.
| What we collect | You put it outside | We carry it out |

| Furniture van load Up to ten upholstered pieces — a flat’s worth of soft furniture. |
— | £375 |
Priced by piece and size. Each price is one piece on its own. More than one piece on the same visit? Add them up and take £50 off for each extra piece — a 2-seater plus a mattress comes to £120 outside or £150 carried out; a three-piece suite (a 3-seater and two armchairs) comes to £135 or £165. Carrying it out adds £30 per job — any room, any floor, stairs and no-lift flats included: about 20 minutes of our £89/hr two-person crew, the same whether it is a 2-seater from the front room or a corner sofa down two flights. Every price is all-in: the specialist POPs disposal that upholstered furniture legally needs is already inside the figure, and nothing is added on the day.
Sofa and mattress disposal in Northwood — your questions answered
Can you bring a sofa down from upstairs in a big house?
Yes. Two crew come on every job, which is what a sofa on a staircase takes. If a piece genuinely will not come down whole, we can dismantle it where it is — mention it when you book so we allow the time.
What does a sofa cost if it is already outside?
Kerbside prices start at £65 for an armchair; a 2-seater is £95, a sofa bed £120 and a corner sofa £125. Carrying it out adds £30 to the job, whatever the floor.
Will the council take a sofa from a Northwood house?
Only from your boundary: everything has to be out at ground level by 6am, and the crew will not come inside. A slot is £53 (£39 over 65) for up to six items, so if the sofa is already out the front and you are happy to wait for a date, it is the cheaper route.
Can you take the old furniture when we downsize?
Yes — a room of it or a whole house of it. Upholstered pieces are priced by the piece and size, and a furniture van load is £375 with the carrying included. For a full move-out, our Northwood house clearance service may suit better.
How soon can you collect in HA6?
Usually the same or next day. We come over from Uxbridge via Ruislip and Eastcote and work 7am to 10pm, seven days a week including bank holidays. A photo of the piece and where it sits gets you a fixed price and a slot.
Where we collect furniture near Northwood
We are based in Uxbridge (UB8) and cover Northwood seven days a week. As well as HA6 we work across Ruislip, Eastcote, Pinner, Rickmansworth and Harefield, and out to the Moor Park border.
What the price includes — and what it doesn't
The most common complaint about clearance companies is a price that grows once the van is loaded. So here is the whole of ours, before you book, including the parts that cost extra.
Included in the price we quote
No line of this is billed separately afterwards.
- Labour — the crew, the carrying and the loading.
- The van, the fuel, ULEZ and the congestion charge — London charges are ours, not yours.
- Disposal and recycling of the load — the tipping cost is inside the price.
- Access from anywhere on the property — any room, up or down stairs, or out of the garden.
- VAT — the price you are shown is the price you pay.
- Waste transfer paperwork for your load, on request — so your duty of care is documented.
Priced separately, or not carried at all
Told to you up front, never discovered on the invoice.
- Upholstered seating and mattresses carry their own disposal fee, because the law forces them down a more expensive route than the rest of your load. The amount is on our pricing page before you book.
- Hazardous items — paint, chemicals, asbestos, tyres and gas bottles cannot travel in a general load and need a specialist route. We will tell you which one.
- Fridges, freezers and electricals have a separate WEEE route — flag them when you book so we arrive with the right van.
- Anything flammable, explosive, illegal, or alive — we cannot carry it, and we will say so before the day.
If there turns out to be more than we quoted for, you hear the new price before anything goes in the van — not once it is loaded, and not on the invoice. The same goes for access: tell us when you book if your street is permit-only or on a red route, or if the job is above the third floor with no lift, and we plan for it instead of pricing round it on the day.
What happens to your waste after we drive away
Most clearance companies stop this story at the word "recycled". Here is the actual route your load takes, including the part of it that nobody advertises.
It goes in by hand
Everything is carried out and loaded by the crew — from the room, the garden or the kerbside. What is in the load matters, because what is in it decides where it is legally allowed to go.
Sorted, not buried
The load goes to a licensed transfer station or recycling centre, where it is separated by material. It is not tipped straight into a hole in the ground.
Recovered by material
Metal, wood, cardboard, textiles and electricals are pulled out for recycling or recovery. Green waste is composted.
The bit nobody advertises
Upholstered furniture cannot be recycled at all. Since January 2023 the Environment Agency presumes every domestic sofa, armchair and padded dining chair contains persistent organic pollutants, so it must be kept apart from other waste and incinerated — never landfilled, never shredded for reuse. That law, not a markup, is why soft seating carries its own fee. Whatever is genuinely left after sorting goes to energy recovery.
- Metal
- Wood
- Cardboard & paper
- Textiles
- Electricals (WEEE)
- Green waste
We do not publish a recycling percentage. You will see "90% diverted from landfill" on a lot of clearance websites. The sorting happens at the transfer station, after our van has left, and we are not going to take credit for a figure we cannot evidence. What we can give you is the route your load takes and the paperwork for it — and if you want to check who handles it, ask us to identify the registered carrier for your collection and verify them on the Environment Agency public register before we load.
Proof, not adjectives
Anyone can type "trusted" and "reliable" onto a website. These are the things about us you can actually check.
We are a small London crew, not a national booking platform, and we are not going to pretend otherwise: we have 27 five-star reviews on Google and 3 on Yell. That is all of them. Every one is public, unedited and one tap away — which is worth rather more than a five-figure review count you have no way of reading.
